WWE 2K22

WWE 2K22 is an upcoming professional wrestling video game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports which is just a few months away from launch, and it’s full of potential with exciting game modes like the long-awaited return of General Manager mode (MyGM) leading the charge. However with the absolute dumpster fire that was WWE 2K20 many fans are skeptical about this year‘s entry. WWE 2K20 has been noted as one of the worst wrestling games ever made being plagued by game breaking bugs and glitches even after numerous patches and updates.

Long time developer for WWE Games, Yukes Co. parted ways with 2K Sports after the release of WWE 2K19 which was on the right track for making WWE simulation games great again to start a new project which is a brand new AEW wrestling game currently in early stages of development. Visual concepts has come out and said that Yukes deteriorating their relationship with 2K Sports is what caused them to be in a critical situation as to where they could not utilize any of Yukes’s resources to build the game and essentially had to start from scratch and rush the game out for its annual fall release. There’s no excuses. The game should’ve been delayed and stayed in the oven for many months or however long they needed to get it right instead of rushing it out for a cash grab. Visual Concepts announced in 2020 that there will be no simulation wrestling game that year which would have been WWE 2K21 to seemingly focus their efforts in a new arcade action brawler style game WWE Battlegrounds as well as go back to the drawing board for their simulation games. WWE Battlegrounds was a fairly decent game but unfortunately it was extremely repetitive and tedious. The only reason it was designed was to keep fans waiting for the next simulation wrestling game busy as Visual Concepts started from scratch to build a polished game. After nearly 2 years 2K announced WWE 2K22 at WrestleMania 37 in April of 2021.

Now a bit over 2 years of being in development 2K and visual concepts has promised to write the wrongs with the release of WWE 2K22. Their slogan for the game is “It Hits Different” Promising a rebuilt engine with smoother gameplay and better graphics. As well as a brand new mode MyFaction, Similar to NBA 2K’s MyTeam mode where you build a fantasy team. I sure hope this installment hits different because if this game doesn’t deliver and struggle to live up to its expectations, this could very well be the end of the series as we know it. WWE 2K22 is set to release in March of this year and WWE legend Rey Mysterio will be the cover star. It will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
